eBay has released an exclusive iPhone index which places all iPhone related sales data at your fingertips.
As the sales of Apples prized iPhone continue to decline, more and more ‘unlocked’ iPhones are starting to appear with prices falling at an alarming rate. O2 has just slashed £100 off the UK 8Gb model.
O2, (in the UK), are currently offering the 8Gb model for £169/$340, while in Germany, T-Mobile are offering the same model for just 99 Euros which is around £78/US$153.
The price of the 16Gb model remains unchanged however.
But why is this happening?
Well, when Apple released the iPhone they anticipated 500,000 sales across Europe but to date, that sales figures sits at just 330,000. The reasons for this are cited that Apple made some big mistakes when they brought their iPhone to market.
For one, the product was lacking some features that should have been included as standard. The fact that the phone didn’t offer 3G - instead it offered the slower alternative of EDGE. Another factor is the phone didn’t feature a camera or MMS (image text messaging).
Be honest, if you walked into a mobile phone store and was offered a phone that didn’t have 3G, didn’t have a camera and couldn’t send MMS text messages, would you still buy one for over £200/$400 and pay £35/$70 line rental?
Yeah, neither would I but this is the Apple iPhone we’re talking about which is why 330,000 models were sold across Europe. This however wasn’t as many as Apple had hoped for.
So now that the prices are falling and unlocked models are appearing, what does this mean for buyers and sellers on eBay? Obviously, if the new prices are falling and a new model is due to be released, then this will have a knock on effect across the used market - namely eBay.
So, below, what you will find is the latest Apple iPhone sales data for the iPhone. At your finger tips is all of the sales data you need to decide if this is a good time to buy or begin selling a model that is due to be replaced.
